The patent for Viagra expired on October 28, 2020, meaning the company was forced to launch its version. Viagra had a lower price point than its competitors and the generic version was significantly cheaper, according to data from a Canadian data company.
The patent for the little blue pill, which the drugmaker had a patent on before it was absorbed into the U. market by Eli Lilly and Company, was extended to $1 billion by August 2019.
A spokeswoman for Eli Lilly said: “This decision is a victory for our patients and our shareholders.”
But the company is also facing an ongoing patent expiry, which will be finalised in the spring of 2025, after a court decision.
